Flea markets are excellent places for a quick bargain. But have you looked at a flea market from a seller's perspective? Of course, you might have looked upon the flea market as a source of some extra cash. But do you realize the opportunity for a massive and steady business that a flea market offers? Well, the truth is that there are many who have turned this hobby of selling in a flea market into a full-fledged business. And the other truth is that with a little understanding and perseverance anyone can make a lot of money here. Let's try and unravel this business model and learn something here.

For any business model to work, research is the most crucial part. And so it is here too. If you know what the typical customer is looking for, your job is half complete. But then, this is not as easy as it sounds. You will need to first test the waters. Visit some popular flea markets and find out where the customers are swarming. Get some of the products that you think people need and start selling them at a stall but at a very low scale first(you will want to make sure they are legal products). Once, you repeat this a few times, you will have a fair idea of what is hot. Now, you need to go in for the kill.

Find a reliable supplier that can supply you with want you want in bulk quantities. This can be a tough job. You could use message boards on the internet, online search tools etc to make enquiries about the best suppliers for your product. Call on these suppliers and work up a deal with them. Walk into their offices if possible to ascertain if they are genuine. You will have to be aware of the possibility of scammers and look out for any bad signs.

Armed with your inventory, you could now set up a stall and start selling. Make sure you keep adding to your inventory and to the varieties of products you put up for sale. Buyers love variety and you will often find large crowds at those stalls that offer the greatest variety.

The above is a very general and basic business model. The practical aspects are many. You have to get a sales tax ID to make your business genuine and official. This will also encourage buyers to trust you. You will also have to concern yourself with storage of your inventory, making banners for your stall and not to mention getting more staff on your team, probably a trusted friend or a family member, once business starts picking up.

Selling at a flea market is simple if you stick to the basics. It is a lot of hard-work and perseverance but the underlying concepts and strategies are still quite simple. Just remember to start slow and work your way up. Start swimming in the small pools, not the mighty oceans. Remember, many of the best retailers you see today started small at flea markets. Work hard, persist with what you are doing and you will see just how rewarding selling at the flea market can be.
